Ahead of CPL 2021, Guyana Amazon Warriors retain 11 players and release Captain Chris Green

Guyana Amazon Warriors have been one of the most successful franchises as a five-time runner-up of the Caribbean Premier League. They have announced the list of players for CPL 2021 and that has come as a surprise for their cricket fans as they have released some key players from their squad.

As many as six Guyana Amazon Warriors players have been released for the CPL 2021 edition while eleven players have been retained from the previous edition. One of the biggest surprises has been the release of their Captain Chris Green who has proved to be a prolific wicket-taker for the team in previous tournaments. Ross Taylor, Keemo Paul, and Sherfane Rutherford are other notable omissions from the Guyana Amazon Warriors squad who will not be seen in action during the upcoming CPL 2021 season. The axing of Chris Green came as a shocker as many were expecting the release of Ross Taylor and Sherfane Rutherford who had failed to live up to their reputation as their performance was below average in the 2020 edition of the Caribbean Premier League. However, Chris Green’s exit was unexpected as he had a brilliant season in the previous edition of CPL 2020 as a captain and bowler.

Guyana Amazon Warriors team retain 11 players from the previous edition ahead of the CPL 2021 Draft. Under the leadership of Chris Green, the Guyana Amazon Warriors had won six of their league games to finish in the second position. Chris Green was one of the top bowlers for the Guyana Amazon Warriors as he picked nine wickets from eleven matches at a marvelous economy rate of 5.68. The team reached the semi-finals under his leadership and his exclusion shocked everyone as he had done an outstanding job, both as a captain and player.

Under the leadership of Chris Green, Guyana Amazon Warriors had won six of their league games and finished at the second position with 12 points but could not advance through to the final. Guyana Amazon Warriors have retained their core group, with two of the best T20 middle-order batsmen in the world, Shimron Hetmyer, and Nicholas Pooran. Apart from two overseas players Naveen Ul Haq and Imran Tahir, they have also retained Brandon King and Romario Shepherd.

Guyana Amazon Warriors have named hard-hitting wicket-keeper batsman Nicholas Pooran as the new captain of the team for the upcoming edition of the Caribbean Premier League 2021. He will take over from Chris Green who has been released ahead of this season. The Warriors placed second on the CPL points table last season but couldn’t reach the finals. They are hoping a change in reigns will bring a change in their fortunes as they have been runners-up for a record five times in the Caribbean Premier League.
